what sorcery is this?
despite all my efforts, i’m down another 3.5 pounds in the last two weeks. under normal circumstances, i’d be jumping for joy over that but not now. i think that’s been the biggest surprise since childbirth. i can’t believe how hard it has been for me to maintain weight. i lost the pregnancy weight almost immediately and then just kept on losing. it seemed pretty cool at first until i noticed that it seemed to affect my milk supply as well. so i’ve been working like crazy for ten months to keep the weight steady. the few times i’ve tried to start an exercise routine again, i’ve had to give it up pretty quickly because my weight just dropped. this recent weight loss is perplexing because we were on vacation, eating out and stuffing faces. and i’ve been eating nonstop since we’ve been back home. it just doesn’t seem to matter how many heaping spoonfuls of cookie dough i glut myself on (i know; my problem is every woman’s dream). the only thing i can think of is that i recently increased my thyroid dosage but that never benefited my weight before. on the bright side, if i ever balloon up and need to lose weight in the future, i’ll just start breastfeeding someone 🙂

Palate expansion
I’ve probably been shielding my boy’s diet too closely and I’m sure it’s long overdue but with our upcoming trip, we’ve been working on expanding his culinary horizons beyond momma’s home cooking. This week, he has had his first oatmeal, hummus, English muffin, cheese, and blueberries. Today he ate chicken – he is officially carnivorous. I can’t stand how quickly he’s growing but it’s so much fun to watch him with new experiences.
Buggy
Uh oh. Seems like we might be getting our first cold. Little man had a runny nose all day yesterday and he woke up at 530 this morning so congested he couldn’t breathe. hubby managed to get him to take a little nap in our bed before we finally got up and got going.
He has a low grade fever (100.4). Here’s hoping it passes quickly and doesn’t get much worse; I can’t stand seeing my boy feel bad. I’m guessing his first real play date isn’t going to happen today either. My poor Turkey 🙁

6th trimester nesting
apparently my nesting instinct has finally kicked in. i spent the weekend on a household rampage. i rearranged the turkey’s room about three times – still not happy with it but i’m giving it a few days to grow on me or for inspiration to strike on a better arrangement. i got hubby to hang the artwork that i had created for him. i went through all of the hand-me-down clothes that we’ve received to pack them into boxes by size. i started going through and throwing away junk that was standing in the way of our “baby-proofing”. i’ve done several loads of laundry and i cooked three meals for the week tonight. color me exhausted.
You say goodbye, I say hello
We have finally mastered waving! After months of showing him and trying to get him to wave, which he had no interest in whatsoever, he started waving out of nowhere today. Made me cry, I was so proud. It really is all the little things. Yesterday, he pulled himself up on the front of the loveseat and sidestepped along most of the length of it.
In other news, today was a wonderful family day. Somehow, the weather was actually beautiful this morning so we were able to open the doors and enjoy the fresh air. The gulf was calm so we took the turkey down for some beach time. He loved hanging out on the beach and feeling the wind in his hair. He enjoyed a couple handfuls of sand, promptly in the mouth, but he did not care for walking in the sand at all. Every time we stood him in it, he picked his legs up. Silly boy doesn’t realize he’s a beach bum yet! We then spent the evening hanging out with some friends who have made themselves his honorary grandparents. It was such a fabulous day!
