yah, mon

in the morning, we take off with our friends to celebrate the end of ironman with an all-inclusive week in Jamaica.  it’ll be us and two other couples so it should be lots of fun and the unwind is definitely needed.  we’ll be trading off 36 degree mornings here for 91 degrees there… hubby is thrilled but i’d rather my open-window weather anytime.

she’ll be coming ’round the moutain…

last weekend we headed up to the smokies to hike up a mountain.  a couple friends of ours have some standing reservations at the mt leconte lodge and invited us way back on new years eve to accompany them.  unfortunately, as the time approached, they found that they were unable to go due to injuries and such so they asked that we go in order to keep them from losing their reservation for next year.  and so we went.

our trip actually started after work last tuesday when we made our way to north ga to see some friends and work from the office for a day and a half.  it’s a six hour drive that took us seven and a half because of an accident just below atlanta.  i kid you not… i was PARKED on the interstate for an hour and ten minutes.  seriously… no movement whatsoever.  you can guess how happy i was that night and the next morning after getting into our friends’ house so late, staying up even later to visit, not being able to sleep at all, and then getting up ridiculously early for the commute to the office.  most of the office showed up on wednesday to see us so we had a good time visiting with the coworkers and, more importantly, i got to eat at la parrilla

thursday we worked a half day at the office and then headed to pigeon forge to meet up with our friends who weren’t able to make the hike.  we spent the evening hanging out with them and then parted ways.  they had told us that the trail we were taking was only going to take about two hours so we took our time getting around friday.  i slept in a bit, we had some breakfast, and got checked out of the hotel.  at the last minute, we realized that we would be parking our car on the side of the road over night so we decided to call a coworker who lives in the area and took our computers to his house for safekeeping.  we slowly made our way back to the trail-head for alum cave bluffs and got started on our hike after 14:00.

travel plans

i haven’t given any updates on our coworker’s son lately.  cam spent several weeks in the icu before being moved to the rehabilitation ward of the facility.  he spent quite a bit of time there as well.  last month, he moved to an apartment next to the facility which is sort of a halfway house deal and gives him a little more freedom and a little less medical supervision.  one of his parents has to be there twenty-four hours a day because he still has no control of anything below the chest.  he has learned to use his arms more, and is even in a manual wheelchair a few hours a day.  he has physical therapy six or seven hours a day.  they say that he is mostly back to his old self and stays in good spirits most of the time.  at the end of next month, he is supposed to be able to go home.  this means that both of his parents need to renovate their homes in order to make them wheelchair accessible.  they started with his dad’s house and that’s where we’re headed this weekend.  he said that they are doing a lot of sheetrock work right now so hubby will definitely be helpful there.  i’m not much good for sheetrock other than mudding the screw-holes but i’ll help out any way i can, even if it’s just making runs for supplies and food.

the ironic thing about all of this is that, about three years ago, one of cam’s best friends died.  the family was helped by the show extreme makeover:  home edition and cam was there helping out.  now, cam is a paraplegic and both of this parents have to practically rebuild their homes for him.  and they are blessed to have friends and family helping any way they can.

so, we’re heading to ga tomorrow night and then we’ll head to orlando from there.  we’ve got my cousin’sanniversary/halloween party to look forward to and we’ve been invited to another halloween party the night after as well.  then i get to have lots of fun with my friend preparing for her wedding (16 days!!!).

on the road again and lettin’ the good times roll!

i’m not dead yet… i feel much better…

   Posted by: arcanai

indeed, i am feeling much less like the walking undead today.

update17:05 – i was feeling well enough that i did some lunch-gymming today all by myself. go me. 50 minutes on the treadmill. but my most important accomplishment this afternoon was booking a cruise. yay for having a vacation on the books! we’ll be cruising for ten days at the end of september. yes, this will be the “killer hurricane season” they’ve been predicting every year.

moving in…

   Posted by: arcanai

last night was another late night jam session on rock band. maybe one of these days we’ll be good enough to play with the kids! so, of course, i’m dead tired again today. and it’s just been a very tiring work day anyhow. we found out yesterday that my boy is actually going to be leaving me for two weeks instead of one and then he’s got a conference at disney the week after that so, basically, that boils down to me being here for may. i feel a little like the baby in the basket on the doorstep. i really hope that my sissy and bro-n-law honestly don’t mind and aren’t just saying that. i know that it’s one of those situations where, really, what else are you gonna say? you can’t really say “no, go find a hotel.” oh well. in any case, though i don’t like being gone from my new home so long, i will get to do lots of visiting that i have been desperately missing. i should also be able to do plenty of weddinging with jenny, which i’ve felt bad about not being able to do. i already called and rescheduled our furniture delivery for the end of the month (making sure to give myself plenty of time to get home and get the room painted before it comes) and i need to call and reschedule our dental appointments. i guess going to the dentist with my hubby on our anniversary was a better plan than him being two thousand miles away on our anniversary. that’ll teach me to sarcastically complain. so who wants to take me out for my anniversary?
